Yesterday, Michael and I got to hear Philip Yancey speak - a very cool experience. He is the author of several amazing books. I have read a few. When I found out that he would be speaking at a local church and figured we had to go. He was very insightful and quite entertaining in person. Michael kept saying that Philip Yancey reminded him of an older generation David Crowder (in looks). :)
During the talk, he asked how many people in the congregation had climbed at least one of Colorado's 14,000 foot peaks. We were amazed that probably half of the congregation raised their hands (and it was a very large congregation). Then he asked if anyone had climbed all 54 14ers. There was at least one person at each service that had. Michael and I are looking forward to soon joining the ranks of those that have climbed at least one* (Mt. Elbert is the Colorado highpoint - so at minimum we will be doing that one). Perhaps the 14ers will be our next undertaking... after finishing the highpoints of course.
* I am not counting the time that my family rode the tram to the top of Pikes Peak. If that one counts, then I have done one - but I'm not counting anything that involves zero hiking. :)
