The Goodrums

It was an adventure of a weekend. We got to hang out for a few minutes in the basement yesterday evening, as two tornadoes touched down within miles of the house. This one was only about 1 1/2 miles away, in Castle Pines (directly south of us):
















It's always interesting when you go on the weather channel website and the local status for your zip code says, "funnel cloud." Of course, everyone does the opposite of what they should during a tornado warning... All our neighbors headed outside to look for it, instead of taking shelter. Instant block party! Since conditions were perfect for formation of more tornadoes (four were reported in the area last night), we eventually headed for the basement for a bit.

Zoe was hanging out with us this weekend and she loved the round (aka Papasan) chair in the basement. We read "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" and "If You Give A Pig A Pancake" (same series) about a hundred times. It's amazing how many things from our childhood are still popular with kiddos today.

Fortunately both of the nearby tornadoes headed east (away from our house). Zoe was quite fascinated with the storm all evening. It was a funny day for tornadoes yesterday in Colorado. Tornadoes are common in eastern Colorado, but quite rare this close to the Rockies. One even formed up in the mountains, which is virtually unheard of.

We had some nice communication breakdowns over the course of the weekend. At the restaurant on Saturday night, it took me about 5 minutes to figure out "straw." Yesterday evening she asked for what sounded like "pickles" on her ice cream. Good thing I figured out that she was asking for "sprinkles" before the Klaussen's jar came out of the refrigerator. Good times!
