The Goodrums

This is post #100 on our blog. Woo hoo! Many of our friends beat us there by leaps and bounds (see Mary Katherine's blog for example). We just can't compete with that (but she does have a beautiful little one to showcase)! :)

Last night, we went for a short jog - our first in a while due to the extreme heat of late. We ran by the townhome complex that had the fire. It was awful. Lightning hit the roof of one of the buildings, as we thought. Two units were completely destroyed, total and complete loss. What wasn't damaged by fire was definitely damaged by water and smoke. The roof was completely gone on both units (and it rained all day Thursday). My heart goes out to those people.

On Thursday morning, I actually called our church to see if they would take on this as a community outreach project. About a year ago there was a fire at a nearby apartment complex (also at the back of our subdivision... some not good omens here) and the church organized a great response. There were all kinds of things donated to the people involved and there may have even been some financial assistance offered. I'm really hoping that they will do something similar in this situation.

Other than that experience, yesterday was great. It rained for something like 6 or 7 hours - a nice slow rain. Our grass is so happy and green. Yay! It also helped cool things off (which our a/c and electric bill appreciate). We were supposed to be under an extreme heat advisory yesterday, but with the rain the high was 80. Our highs lately have been over 100. What a nice change!

Having survived another (pretty crazy workweek), now we're looking forward to a weekend... Not much planned but I'm sure we'll find plenty to do.
