The Goodrums

So sorry we haven't updated in forever. Life has been crazy with a cross-country move, house closing, unpacking, etc. Unfortunately, when we arrived in Colorado we were without internet for almost a week. That sure put a damper on updating the blog. Between the lack of internet at home and the weather (bunch of snow storms) during the first week or so, we had a hard time getting connected. And then again, we were moving - and moves are always chaotic.

So here's an update on what's been going on with us:

We arrived in Denver late on January 13th after another thousand mile drive. It was a good thing we showed up when we did, as Saturday night Denver got several inches of snow (see picture of the barely snow covered Saturn below). The snow made it somewhat inconvenient to get around on Sunday - although not really all that bad, knowing what we know now. On Sunday we slept in, ran a few errands and picked up our new car from the airport (see post about "PC" below).

On Monday, we had our home inspection. Tuesday we met with the builder and did our walkthrough. Wednesday morning we met with our insurance agent and then closed on our new house. Thursday the pest control guy came. We also rented a Uhaul to go pick up a bunch of stuff that Michael's parents had left for us at a friend's apartment. It was a good thing we got a Uhaul. There was a lot more stuff then we were expecting!! But there was some good stuff too - like a TV (yes, in fact, TV is not against our religion - we've been asked that before ;-) and a full sized bed - many visitors are going to appreciate that.

Friday the movers came with all the rest of our stuff and we began unpacking. The Comcast (cable/internet) guys also showed up in the middle of the mover craziness (although they weren't able to get the internet working that day due to a problem upstream in their line). We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off!

We spent the weekend working on unpacking. We made some good progress. We managed to unpack all but about 20 boxes during the first weekend - although stuff was everywhere. We got another big snowstorm on Sunday - and had some crazy adventures as a result (post to come on that).

The following week was full - with lots of contractors coming in and out. On Monday, the GE service tech for our washer came out because the washer had started eating (read: shredding) our clothes. Not good. Tuesday, our blinds were installed, the KitchenAid service tech came to fix the drip on our refrigerator (water leaks don't get along well with hardwood floors), Qwest came to install our phone line and Comcast finally got our internet connected. Tuesday night we bought a wireless router and spent the evening configuring our new wireless internet connection. On Wednesday, the alarm guy came to teach us how to use our system, we had a new range delivered (they put in a flat top electric range and we replaced it with a gas range/electric oven dual-fuel unit), and the refrigerator guy had to come back because he didn't have a part they day before. On Thursday, the alarm people were back to fix a faulty wire and we had contractors in to plumb a gas line and install the range. I think Friday was finally calm - relatively. And oh yeah, we worked some that week too.

Again, we spent the weekend unpacking. We managed to get the kitchen stuff cleaned and mostly put away. We organized our master bedroom and managed to at least assemble the office furniture.

We are finally starting to settle in - although we still have quite a way to go before everything is in its place and organized. We love the beauty of Colorado. The views are spectacular. Work has been busy for both of us. Michael seems to be enjoying his job - although they have been moving offices this week too which has been somewhat crazy. I know he will be very happy to have moves behind him for a while after this.

It will be nice to be settled and stable again at some point. We'll get there here in the next few weeks. I realized the other day that we have had four mailing addresses in a single year (our apartment in Jackson, house on Helm, P.O. Box in Massachusetts and the house here in Colorado). The post office must love us! Hopefully we'll be here for a good while - so... come visit! :)
